How To Succeed On A Paleo Diet
The Paleo lifestyle is all about eating more in line with our ancestors. That means eating naturally grown foods and eliminating processed foods, refined sugar and grains.

It can be overwhelming to try and figure it all out at first but we have listed out the general guidelines to follow and remember if you follow a healthy diet 80% of the time you are going to reach your goals and be much healthier than if you were to eat processed and refined foods.

Simple Guidelines To Follow.

Protein: Average 0.8-1 gram per pound of lean muscle weight per day.

Carbohydrates: 50-100 grams/day of carb intake. Once you have reached your bodyweight goals you can increase that to 100-150 grams per day.

Fat: No limitation here other than eat fat sensibly and don’t over consume.

Eliminate: Sugary food, sugar filled drinks, grains (wheat, corn, rice, pasta, breads, cereals) beans (soy), trans fats
Eat In Moderation: High glycemic fruit, high fat dairy products, wild rice

Herbs, spices: Add to foods to enjoy the flavor enhancement of meals.

If your goal is weight loss then you want to track carefully your carb intake. If you go below 50 grams of carbs per day you will be more into a Ketogenic zone. This can speed up weight loss, but it is not recommended for long periods of time.

Most people are going to be able to reach 50-100 grams of carbs per day and adjust to this type of meal plan. The first few days may be challenging as your body adjust to the low sugar intake and is forced to become metabolically flexible.

Metabolically flexible means that it learns to use fat more effectively as a fuel source.

Once you have ready your goals a maintenance carb level is generally around 100-150 grams. You can usually maintain your bodyweight fairly easily at this amount.

150-300 grams and 300+ is where we start gaining weight and most American’s diets are in the upwards of 300+ grams of carbs per day. This is why the first few days of eating 50-100 grams can be a bit of a shock to the body.

Your body will adjust though and learn to adapt.

Remember 70-80% of our success and health status is determined by our diet

Follow these guidelines for your Paleo meal plans and you will find very quickly how much your body changes for the better.

In my 19 years of experience as a Registered Dietitian I have seen that most people struggle with being consistent with their meal planning because they don’t have something simple they can follow.

Since we all have smart phones nowadays there is an App where you can not only customize your meal plans, but also have access to them on your phone. Let’s be honest our phone is probably sitting right next to us every time we eat. ;)
